At the campground, we had a shower, laundry and a store. While washing our clothes we met Jeff and Lori and their two girls. They are from Indiana and here for a two week vacation. The park was empty although it fills up on the weekend. They invited us to dinner at their campsite and we enjoyed some delicious Teriyaki chicken and green beans. It was gourmet! Then we had some tasty red wine at the fire. Unfortunately, it continued to rain. They offered us umbrellas and blankets. If not for the rain, we may have never left the fire. Jeff and Lori were a joy to talk with and the kind of people you would want for friends.
Today we had breakfast at the Wayside and hiked to an old abandoned shelter they now use for maintenance. We had the place to ourselves with firewood ready to burn. It even still has a privy. Feels like trail magic. The wood was stacked and split. We are amazed at the number of hikers that stay at the shelters-we prefer to find quiet/private places and it always seems to end up in a special place like a cliff with a view of a sunset or next to a waterfall. A lot of hikers are missing out.
EZ & Gravity
The rain has finally stopped. Not sure how far we will go today but will have two campgrounds to cross. Gotta love the shenandoah valley!
