June 14 by Rosanna Macfarlane

It's been an exciting week. Driving from MI to VA, to WV to MD, back to WV. Yesterday we canoed 12 miles down the Shenandoah River. Lois (Julie's mom, 76) was my amazing canoeing partner, except when we came upon a man fishing in the nude, Lois was not focused on her steering and almost ran us into the trees on the shore. I'm sure she was trying to see his tattoo. Sorry no picture!

Last night we watched the sunset at Bear Den Lodge. An old stone home restored by the ATC.

Today Lois and I hiked a bit on the AT to meet Mark and Julie took them for a 2 hour lunch.

Lois and I were very privileged to celebrate with Mark and Julie as they had an exciting hike today making their halfway milestone of 1013 miles into Harpers Ferry today. Tomorrow we will explore this very old town, say good bye and go back home.

  1. What a great looking location. Somehow, I have to believe this hike is going a little different than your expectations when you first started. It seems to be going very good with something new everyday. It must be a great feeling making it to the half way point. Looking forward to meeting up towards the end.
