It's been busy with Mom and Rosanna here. Hard to even keep track of all that has happened. Here's my best shot.
Yesterday we left Shenandoah in a deep fog and drove into Front Royal. The rain was coming down so hard, we chose to postpone our slack pack till late afternoon.
In Narrows we were invited to the home of Tom and Sharon Johnson. Tom is a retired Lt. Col. From the military and now a historian for the CIA. We called Sharon and she had us let ourselves in because she was not home. The rain slowed down so EZ and I headed out for our 14 mile hike.
While we were hiking Rosanna tried several methods to dry out her tent including putting the tent near the car in hopes the radiator heat would dry it.
The rain would come again and she would start over.
After our hike, we showered and Sharon came home with dinner and a young couple from Germany, Eva and Alex, that she would be shuttling into DC that night. Brad (Parana), who we had met back in Fontana Dam had been brought here also by Tom due to troubled shin splints. He was icing his feet and legs. We all sat down to a delicious dinner. After dark, off went Sharon and the German couple. She left the house to us hikers and her dog, Sam She said she figured hikers wouldn't take anything because they wouldn't want to carry the extra weight. Sharon was incredibly kind and generous. Such wonderful people!
Once we were in bed in the loft area mom looked at me and started laughing. There were those moments during the day that happened that can get your funny bone. Pretty soon we all had the giggles until our stomachs and cheeks hurt.
Today we went canoeing. We had strong class 2-3 rapids and a two foot ledge challenge. We were nervous about the rapids but got through them with flying colors. EZ caught more fish, the sun felt great, we swam and loved every minute of the river we are ending our day at the Bear Den Hostile. We are tenting near the garden. There was a man tenting near us that came into the hostile for a bunk because a snake was trying to get into his tent. We checked our tents carefully before we zipped ourselves safely in for the night
Rosanna wants me to share about the.naked fisherman, but I will let her blog that tomorrow.
Tomorrow we will slack pack 20 miles into Harpers Ferry, West Virginia!!!!!!
