Who knew our ballroom dancing classes would come in handy on the AT. Last night Marks mom asked what Mark would do for Fathers Day. All we knew is that we would be hiking.
We woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the field. 5 miles in, we come to a panoramic view of a valley of farm country. Hiked three more miles into Pen Mar Park. We were excited to see a pop machine. Then we found out there was going to be a live band at 2 PM. The concession stand opened and now Fathers Day was looking up. We had ice cream, ate our lunch, napped, danced, and talked with some friendly locals. A woman who lives nearby asked if we needed anything and we could not think of one thing. We stayed at the park from 12-3:30.
As we left the park, we came across some wild blackberries...delicious. We hiked 10 more miles to a beautiful new shelter by the river and a nice fire roaring. Who knew that there would be so much to enjoy today. I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow will bring.
Weather forecast is 60 percent rain tomorrow, 30 percent on Tuesday, upper 90s the rest of the week
Cheesy Water and Towley showed us their beat up shoes.
We are at mile 1066.5 at Tumbling run Shelters.
