This morning we caught up to the Honeymooners and Spirit. We spent the day together and a good one at that! Hiked to the largest Oak tree on the AT, Nuclear Lake was beautiful, and onto a New York Deli. We laughed about how some people are hiking to Khatadin while we are just trying to make it to the next sandwich. We had a big lunch and a long break. As we are sitting on the porch with temps in the high 90s, it was difficult to move yet alone throw on our packs and hike ten more miles. Mark was the first to start so I followed.
We started in fields and we were dying. We made it five miles and collapsed on our tarp in the shade to regroup. Another 1 and a half to a stream and another break. Big climb to finish at a gorgeous river, the Ten Mile River. We could not get in that water fast enough! Ahhhhhhh! So happy to be renting near a river for the night.
We are in Conneticut. Mile marker 1451.5 with 731.7 to go. Two thirds complete.

Hey Guys,
ReplyDeleteBe careful with dealing with the heat. I had heat stoke a couple of years ago and it can take you down for a couple of days. If you feel you are over heating it's because you are. Don't think you can tough it out because you're only hot. Take frequent breaks and drink plenty of water. Maybe hike earlier in the day, break in the late afternoon and then hike during the last couple of hours of daylight. Anyway, I'm sure you guys already thought of these ideas. It just makes me feel bteer to share it with you.
