On the way into Branchville, we came across a large black mama bear with two cubs. We stopped and watched the little ones frolicking playfully. They ran to mama bear and it's as if she told them to go in the direction away from us she kept a close eye on us. You could see her protective instincts. Walking forward on the trail would bring us closer to her. After walking over 1300 miles to get here, we weren't about to go backwards. We would take a step, she would glance, we stop, she would start to move away, we would take a step... We did not feel afraid just respectful.
We were walking a ridge when a clearing opened up to two beautiful lakes below. When we finally got to them anticipating a swim, we discovered they were private lakes. We did find a shady spot under a tree to relax in.
Now e are at the top of Sunrise Mountain. We are watching the colorful sunset. We are going to camp here so we can also watch the sunset. As we are enjoying the scene, a couple come up dresses nicely. He just proposed to her and she said yes. Adorable.
What a day.
