Plan was to hike out this morning but Marks backpack broke. We know we can take it back to REI but it is 53 miles away. Tried to rent a car....closed for the holiday. We could call and have a new one mailed but then we are here for two more days. Taxi would cost 300.00. We went to town for breakfast and started to see if any Of the locals might know someone interested in picking up a few bucks and be our taxi. I asked a cashier Trish at the local bakery and after calling her fiancée we had Irvine on his way. We headed out and was able to exchange the backpack and both of us replaced our boots that were badly damaged from the PA rock mine field. Irvine was a great guy to talk to-he grew up in Brooklyn, moved his mother and self here to escape the city life. Thank you so much Trish and Irvine.
After getting back around 2:00 we had lunch and visited with many of the hikers coming off the trail for the 4th. (Solo, Camanche, Spirit, Honeymooners, Bird Kicker, Bottle cap...) Many are taking two zero days to give their beat up feet a break.
We found the best bakery ever and it's not just baked goods-egg sandwiches with thick sliced ham, prime rib sandwich, Rubens, cookies, pies, ice cream, donuts, eclairs etc. etc...
Hope to get out tomorrow morning without a hitch-new pack, new boots,a days rest, going into NJ- we are pumped up.
