July 19

Awoke this morning to drizzling rain left over from yesterday's storm that included some serious lighting and downpour. The trail offered an alternative route when the river levels are high. Gravity suggested taking to avoid slippery rocks and a heavy water flow . Bad news is we took it and added a mile onto our hiking-oh well.

The hiking today seemed to be tough on us and thinking it's this weeks mile accumulation that are ouching our feet. I fell first time in sometime today but no injury. Weather much cooler but still managed to break a sweat. Actually hiked into some cool pockets of air today that were quite noticeable.
Made it to our goal of Falls Village, CT about 3:30. Very small and quiet town.
A beautiful Inn that had rooms and a Restaurant -$209 per night for a room, a general store that was closed for the day sometime before 3:30, a cafe that closes at 2, a fire station, a 6 bay repair garage and a beer store open till 8:00.
We went to the closed cafe caught the owner and we are camping on his lot. Prior to bedtime we both had a beer in a brown paper sack next to the store on 2 plastic lawn chairs provided by the beer store operator. Then we went to dinner at the Inn and sat on the large porch after eating.

I would guess less than 1000 live in this small village. They have a large falls which gave its name Falls Village.

A local told us a hiker had fallen this morning and a rescue team went in and had to helicopter them out in the town of Salisbury-this is the next town for which we'll hit tomorrow only 8 miles away-no other details other than he was with a group and was around 30 yrs old.
Turns out the injured hiker was a. Volunteer working on the trail no update on his condition.
Nothing better than a coke machine just off the trail.
