May 15. On the trail again, just can't wait...

We spent the night in Burkes Garden, nicknamed God's Thumbprint. It is a beautiful valley full of plush green pastures. A man named Pete is becoming a Pastor and for a project he decided to minister to thru hikers. He has a note on a tree that says, "Tired, hungry, thirsty? Call for a free meal and place to stay. Because it poured with rain yesterday, he had a record 17 hikers in his home and his wife was out of town. The neighbors, Joe and Cindy, took some of us in. They own 800 acres of Gods thumbprint and were wonderful people. We watched the end of a good basketball game between Celtics and 76ers and off to bed. He shuttled us back to the trail first thing in the morning. Small amount of rain today and sunny the rest of the week, thank goodness!

It was too cold for me, but Gordon swam in a waterfall. Met an x thru hiker as we took a break at an overlook and he gave us a cold drink and PBJ sandwiches. Ran into the Yukon/ Boomer group and hiked 17.8 miles to Helvey's Mill Shelter for dinner, a fire and good conversation with Gordon. 30 miles from Gordon's car. Will be sad to see him go.

We realized these past few days that we are in a good size bubble of thru hikers. As many times as Gordon has been out here, he has never seen so many. We are still alone most of the day but see many at the shelters

Took a pic of Marks feet and my boots. Almost 600 miles and both looking troubled. Good news is Marks feet are healing.

  1. FLOWER: Prior to hike, I'd read instructions of how to use duct tape for blisters. Guess it must work, eh? The picture of the waterfall is beautiful! Think your boots will last another 600 miles? Enjoy following your blog. Stay safe.

  2. I think the boots were last a while; however, it seems as if they have become too small for me. I am not sure if my feet will do well in them much longer. I am prepared to go through three pair of boots so trying to make it to 700 miles.
