We are having our first break and along come a group of three that began together in Springer. One of them has lost interest in continuing. He said , ' the trail is no longer calling me'. He said goodbye to friends and emptied his pack into theirs. Off he went down the mountain. Seemed sad to see him go. His friends were shaken Sure reminds you how easy it can be to walk away.
We are stealth camping 1.5 miles before Laurel Creek Shelter.

7 weeks from today we hit the trail
WOW - 600+ miles and then decide to walk off the trail. It shows how tough it can be. But, it sounds like the two of you are having a great time and meeting a lot of interesting people and seeing a lot of interesting places. I'm surprised by the number of people inviting you in and being generous with food, drinks and transportation.
