May 6. Quite a blow

We came into Damascus yesterday in the rain. Found an available room at a hiker B & B run by a wonderful woman named Susie. After our 23 mile hike, my feet were throbbing. Feels good to have them out of boots and elevated. Will be ready to go at it again tomorrow.

We are feeling melancholy today because Kendra, at no doing of her own, could not make it as planned. We were so excited to see her. We are missing our family.

Mark had to get a third pair of boots today. His second pair cracked at the bottom just like the first. He is trying a new lightweight pair recommended by Mt Rogers Outfitter. They are called Oboz. They feel like tennis shoes in comparison. Mine are hanging in there with lots of Shoe Goo. I am hoping to get another 300 miles out of them.

Enjoying the deck at the Mill. Waterfall sounds soothing. Slow, relaxing day.

Ran into Yukon and Pf Flyer in town today. They are doing a full moon hike tonight. Hope they get clear skies.

One more thought. When in town, we enjoy doing our laundry. Problem is you only have a few pieces of clothing so what do you wear? Whatever gets the least wear prior to town. So here is a picture of Mark in his long johns, white socks in public. I am not sure what is going on with the look on his face but it gave us a good laugh. We are blending in well around here :)
