Woke up to a beautiful morning. Walked through a pine forest that was stunning. It took three pictures to try to show how tall these trees were.
I don't think I've shared much about privys. Here we go. I still do not like having to use the woods to take care of my business. There are privys at many of the shelters. They are unpleasant but I am glad they are out here. Today I came across one of my favorites. A screened in privy!! Great idea.
After 9 miles, we had another deli. We took full advantage. We met Bobbi who told us how her families house was wiped out by the flooding caused by Irene. They are rebuilding their home a year later. Mom watched the water come over the bridge and finally to the home. She went up the field to another home and watched the flood do its damage. Grandma and Grandpa would not evacuate either. He had a stroke and the rescuers took four hours to get to him. He is ok now but it has been a long haul. Thanks Bobbi!!
Made it to Hanover where we met trail angle Karen. We were heading to the rec center for laundry and showers when we met Karen. She told us she would take us to her home for the night. We had some time to see the town and Dartmouth College. As we were waiting at the farmers market for Karen, who do we see coming toward us.....Spirit!! Turns out she is staying at Karens as well and has been spending several days at a chiropractor for a troubled sciatic nerve. She will be back on the trail on Saturday but skipping some miles so she can meet back up with the Honeymooners in Lincoln. Go Spirit!
We are enjoying the rest. Hanover is very hiker friendly giving free bagels, coffee, donuts and pizza at several stores. We will spend some time in the morning and back on the trail for three days. Michelle Phaup is meeting us to hike Mt Moosilauke on Sunday.
7:30 PM and not sure I can stay awake any longer. Hiking big miles is tiring...a good tired where you feel you've earned the rest.
