Incredible-so much has happened in these first 6 days I cannot comprehend how 6 months will feel. I have had friends tell me 6 months on the trail will permanently change me-it already has!
Tonight we had a sunset to the west and a full moon in the east-moon shadow moon shadow.
Sleeping is difficult I can never seem to find a position without some pain showing up after 5 minutes, toss and turn,
Our first trail magic experience showed up-Moo from Wisconsin drove a trailer down and has camped out on a back road that crosses the trail. She had a keg of beer, hamburgers, baked fire pit potatoes, snickers etc. for thru hikers. After eating I asked her if she took donations and she replied yes labor or herb (weed) only. I grabbed a few pieces of firewood for her burning campfire.
We ran into a local who hikes the Georgia trail every year because he likes to meet the thru hikers. His trail name is Sea Dawg - after a short hello and talk Julie and I headed out to the next campsite and water source to settle for the night. After resting on our blowup mattresses and starting to make dinner Sea Dawg shows up. He says there are a few sites here and on the other side of the path are better sites and proceeds to pitch his tent 20 feet from ours. As it gets dark we here a loud noise coming from Dawg's tent - a loud snore. We bust out laughing- here is a guy who I'm sure knows he snores and camps next to us the only other tent for ten miles-what is he thinking?
As we are whispering we bust out again in a painful laughter as we find ourselves whispering so we don't disturb Dawg who can be heard from a mile away site. I've changed our friends trail name- he will be known to us not as Sea Dawg but Sawing Logs.
Lots of owls at night and one large snake Julie danced over the other day.
2:43 am better try to sleep so we can hit the trail early.
Mark
